Battle of the marching bands returns to Harrisburg

The August 26 event will feature bands from 3 historically Black colleges and universities that hope to inspire local youths to join bands and attend HBCUs.

Three marching bands from among the nation’s 107 historically black colleges and universities, that serve over 200,000 students, will perform at the fundraising event Saturday Aug. 26 at the high school’s football field. In addition to the bands sharing their musical pride and style, vendors will be providing food and entertainment for families. Gates to the high school’s Severance Field will open at 12 p.m. The bands will perform until 4 p.m.

This is the third time Harrisburg has hosted the event, which is also designed to encourage local students to join marching bands and attend historically Black colleges and universities to further their education. College recruiters will be on-site. The last time the event was in Harrisburg was“This event is going to help send our kids to historically black colleges and universities through life-changing scholarships,” said Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams, who attended the news conference.
