While Salt Lake is anticipating welcoming a major league baseball team to the area, some little league teams said they might cease to exist.

Rose Park Baseball, a nonprofit league focused on the west side of Salt Lake City, said they're struggling with the rising costs to rent the fields."Previous to last year, it was $8 an hour, so it was over 100% increase," Walje said. The cost hike means it is costing the league about $20,000 dollars to rent some of the fields in the area through early June.

Walje told KUTV the league charges members around $155. Not just that, but Walje said they have volunteers who prep the fields outside of practice time. "They drag, rake, scrape and put in bases," he said. "We have to do a lot of work, and have to pay that insane fee," Walje said."Community baseball will die at this price," she said. Both her sons play on the same team, and her husband is a coach in the league.that states, "Tier B baseball field rental rates have gone from $2 per hour in 2015 to $17 in 2024.
