COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- Adrian Beltre has had a busy week.
Beltre is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, as voted on by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America . Alongside Beltre, the BBWAA elected Helton, who spent his entire 17-year career at first base for the Colorado Rockies, and Mauer, the 2009 league MVP that spent his entire 15-year career catching for the Minnesota Twins.
“The last couple weeks has been kind of crazy, busy,” Beltré said. “So I’m trying to enjoy the whole thing. ... The only part that I’m not enjoying, thinking about the speech I have to give up there.” Beltré accomplished a lot in 21 big league seasons, the last eight and his only World Series appearance coming with the Texas Rangers. A four-time All-Star who won five Gold Gloves, he finished with 3,166 hits and 477 home runs. His 2,759 games played at third base are fewer than only Brooks Robinson’s total. He hit for the cycle three times, the last at age 36.
