The fixtures are out but there will be no home comforts for Philippe Clement and his men in the first month of the campaign.
They say home is where the heart is. So for Rangers to not have the basic privilege of playing in front of 50,000 at Ibrox for as many as five games in August is a problem.
The players and management simply can’t allow it to affect them. Not when there’s so much at stake. Rangers must find a solution to get through August and avoid having the same false start that held them back a year ago. But as we found out last year, hit a problem or two and you’re playing catch-up before the summer is even over. Miss out on the Champions League group stage again and the finger will be pointed at the ground problems.
There’s a pre-season friendly against Manchester United at Murrayfield that will allow everyone to get used to the home of Scottish Rugby should that be the chosen venue. I played there once, in a bounce game, and to be honest I was blown away by the size of the place. If there’s over 65,000 Rangers fans in there it would create some atmosphere.
