Over 120,000 Public Service Alliance of Canada members are on strike since Wednesday, but only 42,421 of them actually cast a ballot

In an interview, he was also stunned that PSAC refused to disclose strike vote result and turnout proactively, which unions in Quebec do regularly.

“It’s clear that PSAC needs to review its practices and now has a duty to be completely transparent, for better or for worse, with its members,” Ranger said. It opted not to invalidate the vote because “the support for the strike was high enough that even if there were no irregularities, it is very likely that the outcome would still have been in favour of a strike.”

Originally, voting was scheduled to run until April 19. But in early March, PSAC decided to cut the voting by eight days to April 11 so that it would be completed as the union returned to the bargaining table with federal government negotiators. PSAC argued that it had made note of the change in dozens of communications to members during the vote and had purchased “hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth” of online advertising that linked to pages mentioning the new deadline.
