Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Following the success of its first season, Barbarians season 2 expands upon the characters while also adding more tension between the Romans and the Germanic tribes. Streaming on Netflix, Barbarians is a fictionalized retelling of Germanic tribes' rebellion, led by Arminius, during the Roman Empire's occupation of Germania.
Arminius reaches out to Marbod, the leader of the Macromanni tribe, who has about 70,000 warriors in his army. Arminius believes that an alliance could be possible with Marbod because they both had similar childhoods and fates. Like with Arminius, Marbod was kidnapped from his Germanic tribe and forced to grow up in Rome. However, Marbod reveals that he has been working with the Romans as he believes that appeasing them is better for Germania instead of fighting.
However, despite Folkwin's being in love with Thusnelda and learning that Thumelicus is his biological son, he chooses to suppress these feelings and knowledge. He loves Arminius as much as Thusnelda and knows that supporting him and his cause is more important. Likewise, Arminius never stopped loving Folkwin.
While it's not clear what will become of Thusnelda and her son, inferences can be made about their fates based on the historical accounts of the real-life Thusnelda. While there are several differences between the actual historical figure and her fictional counterpart in Barbarians, one commonality between the two individuals is that, like in Barbarians, Thusnelda's father was a Roman collaborator and allowed his daughter to be taken to Rome.
