Band of Brothers’ Eagle’s Nest explained.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The season finale of Band of Brothers details the capture of Hitler's Eagle Nest by Easy Company, but questions remain over what exactly the Nest is, what its significance was, and who the dead German soldier was that was found there. Throughout HBO's Band of Brothers, the journey of the 101st Airborne Divison, or Easy Company, is detailed from their tribulations in boot camp to the end of World War II itself.
As such, the Eagle's Nest was an important location for the Allies to capture during their invasion of Germany. Despite Hitler already being dead by the time Easy Company reached the Eagle's Nest, the location still could have held valuable information given the importance of the location to prominent members of the Nazi Party. This explains why Easy was sent to capture the Eagle's Nest.
In an interview with the Library of Congress, a soldier of the 3rd Division, 7th Regiment, Company I stated that he and another of his comrades were the first people to enter the Nest. The 7th Regiment was the first to enter Berchtesgaden before Easy Company got there, meaning it could well be true that this was the case. That said, HBO's show seems to imply otherwise, showing Easy as the first regiment to enter the Eagle's Nest in a potential Band of Brothers history mistake.
