Balmain's Olivier Rousteing revealed that the brand's new runway collection was stolen ahead of Paris Fashion Week.
Balmain's Olivier Rousteing just revealed that 50 pieces intended to debut during the brand's upcoming runway show at Paris Fashion Week have been stolen. On Saturday, the designer shared the upsetting news in a post on Instagram.
“This morning I woke up with the smile, starting the fittings for my next show at 9 am and this is what happened … 50 Balmain pieces stolen. Our delivery was hijacked," he wrote. The [truck] got stolen. Thank god, the driver is safe." Despite the setback, Rousteing explained that the Sept. 27 show will go on as planned. "So many people worked so hard to make this collection happen. We are redoing everything but this is so so disrespectful. So many workers, suppliers, my team and I. He added, "Please be safe, this is the world we are living in. Love you my Balmain team and we won’t give up.”
Fellow French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus commented on the post, writing “Strength." Meanwhile, others — including Nicky Hilton, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Linda Evangelista — left messages of support.Earlier this year, Rousteing, who has been the creative director of Balmain since 2011 and is known for his over-the-top fashion spectacles, scaled down his show, which took place at Le Carreau du Temple in Paris, with just 250 guests and only 52 looks .
about his decision to downsize, adding:"To enjoy a moment, after five months’ hard work...We are surrounded by fireworks and all this craziness—social media—but at the end of the day we go back to quality."
