The news was confirmed via his official Instagram account earlier today

Mr Davies' death was confirmed by his loved ones on his official Instagram account who said he had "died peacefully at home". The Guardian's film critic Peter Bradshaw also posted the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, earlier today, Saturday, October 7.

Mr Davies first established himself with a trilogy of films - Children, Madonna and Child, and Death and Transfiguration - in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Before that, he worked as a clerk in a shipping office and a bookkeeper in an accountancy firm for 10 years before enrolling at drama school in Coventry in 1973.

"But I just loved that house, I loved my street – I can still remember all the people and where they lived. And all that’s gone completely." The Deep Blue Sea, starring Rachel Weisz, was also met with widespread acclaim. Mr Davies' last film was 2021's Benediction which told the story of war poet Siegfried Sassoon. He also also a published novelist.
