Bad news for tall people: your risk of catching Covid-19 is double

Scientists find that people over 1.8m are susceptible to contagion by both aerosols and droplets in the air

People taller than 1.8m have more than double the chance of testing positive with Covid-19, a new survey suggests.

An international team of researchers, including experts from the University of Manchester and the Open University, surveyed 2,000 people in Britain and the US, looking at whether personal attributes, work and living practices might influence transmission of the virus.

Aerosols can accumulate in poorly ventilated areas and are carried by air currents. Droplets, however, are bigger than aerosols and are thought to travel relatively short distances and drop quickly from the air. The results suggest downward droplet transmission is not the only transmission mechanism and aerosol transmission is possible...A subscription gives you full digital access to all Times Select content.
