Bacterial levels dangerously high at beaches in Mission Bay and other county shorelines [Breaking]
San Diego County officials issued a new water advisory Thursday evening for a Mission Bay beach and lifted advisories issued earlier this week for two other beaches.
Officials from the Department of Environmental Health and Quality are warning swimmers to stay out of the water at North Cove Vacation Isle in Mission Bay. “Beach goers are advised that bacteria levels have exceeded State health standards and may cause illness,” it said in a statement. Water quality has improved and the advisory was lifted at Shelter Island and San Dieguito River Outlet.Water continues to be unsafe at several beaches along the coastline from the U.S.-Mexico border to La Jolla.
On the south end — from the border to the north end of Silver Strand State Beach — the ocean shoreline remains closed, while earlier advisories discourage swimmers from entering the water at Tidelands Park in Coronado, Cable Street in Sunset Cliffs and La Jolla Cove and the Children’s Pool. “The most common symptoms of recreational water illness are diarrhea, skin rashes, ear pain, cough or congestion and eye pain,” according to a Frequently Asked Questions page on the county’s
