One of the thieves was armed and fired a gun, “causing shrapnel injuries to the child,” police said in a statement. The child was rushed to a local hospital in an ambulance and was in stable condition as of Wednesday morning, according to police. No arrests have been made. The incident is under investigation, and anyone with information can call the department at 510-238-3426.
This is the second robbery in the neighborhood in less than a week. About a half mile away from where the baby was hit by shrapnel, a person was pushed to the ground and robbed by a group of individuals at 5 p.m. on May 13, OPD said.
