Health care spending is expected to grow again in 2022, but not like the double-digit growth seen during the COVID-19 years
Health-care spending in B.C. is expected to grow 3.4 per cent in 2022, a significant drop from double-digit growth during the height of COVID-19, according to the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
But B.C. mirrors the overall trend of a dramatic decrease in spending this year compared with the previous years. In 2020, health-care spending in B.C. rose by 11 per cent, then increased by 10 per cent in 2021. Canada’s health-care system will also continue to require more spending due to an aging population and population growth, he said.
