Before playing for UBC, Hladik starred in the high school ranks with the Vernon Panthers, and helped them all the way to the Subway Bowl provincial finals at B.C. Place in 2016.
“I have to step in and do my best to fill his shoes,” Hladik, who was selected by the Lions in the third round, No. 22 overall, of the 2021 CFL Draft, said. “I need to show what I’ve learned the past couple of years playing behind him.When it comes to first start stress, you can argue that Hladik, 23, has benefited from having extra time to get used to the idea, since B.C. had a bye last week. He’s also had stints this season where he’s seen regular duty in the B.C. defence.
“There are not many classes online anymore, so I have to go back to school and do them in class,” Hladik said. “We will see what that’s like.”
