. Last month, Pressley was tested for coronavirus after experiencing flu-like symptoms.
“As an asthmatic and as someone who had been in contact with a colleague who tested positive for COVID-19, it was determined that I fell into a high-risk category,” Pressleyannouncing she had tested negative for coronavirus. “I am grateful for the safe, compassionate and efficient response by healthcare providers at Massachusetts General Hospital who treated me and the dozens more who had presented with COVID-19 symptoms that day.
Pressley’s recent tweet indicates her normal go-to inhaler might be part of a shortage experts warned about last month. On March 23,that doctors and pharmacists were noticing a shortage of a common type of inhaler being used to treat COVID-19 in hospital emergency rooms. “We are deeply concerned about the albuterol inhaler shortage, as it is now being widely used to treat COVID-19 breathing issues,” Ilisa Bernstein of the American Pharmacists Association
. “Patients, young and old, have long relied on albuterol inhalers for asthma and other breathing disorders. It’s important for asthmatic patients to have these inhalers on-hand to manage sudden onset of symptoms.”
