I know, I know, it’s August and we are always hot.

Why do I keep writing articles on the heat? Well, I do this because heat is the No. 1 weather killer in the U.S., killing far more than tornadoes, derechos and even flooding. It’s important to not get fatigued in the summer heat and let your guard down. While yesterday the only counties in the heat alerts were along I-10 and south, Tuesday the National Weather Service has extended the heat advisory to include all of Southeast Texas.

Temperatures this afternoon will climb into the mid and upper 90s. On Monday, Houston hit 99° but several cities will likely eclipse 100° Tuesday. The highs are brutal, but the heat alert is in place because our heat index values will be between 108-110° at the hottest point of the day. Unfortunately a lot of children will be walking home during the heat of the day. It is so important that the kiddos know to take breaks and drink water. Please stay hydrated outside today!
