Avon Lake School District using unique ways to recruit school bus drivers
AVON LAKE , Ohio - It’s a problem plaguing school districts all over the U.S. and right here in Northeast Ohio: a shortage of school bus drivers.
Sue Cole is the Transportation Supervisor for Avon Lake. This past weekend, she and others hosted a unique event to recruit school bus drivers called “Test Drive A Bus.”“In the past, a lot of people are scared they can’t drive the bus so we wanted them to drive and see if they could do it and show them it’s not so difficult,” she said.“I’ve gotten a few people that are starting the application process and I’ve gotten some other calls since then,” said Cole.
