Avatar 2's Stephen Lang teases Quaritch changes in The Way of Water
It's fair to say that Quaritch isn't exactly a fan of the Na'vi, so the return offered Lang an interesting concept to deal with – a soldier who now looks like the very thing he's been trained to hate.
"In the original film, there was a wonderful, colourful character, but he really was primarily there as a function of evil. You know, he was there to be the conflict," Lang told"And now I think he is that. He still is the source of conflict. But he's also something else again, as he becomes part of the landscape. He becomes part of Pandora, in a way, and that operates on him in very confusing ways."in 2017, it had still been eight years since Lang last played Quaritch.
However, Lang wasn't faced with that challenge as, for him, he's always kept a bit of Quaritch with him."I don't think I ever really abandoned the mindset, because I'd known for a long, long time that there was more to be said on his behalf. So I always kept those embers kind of glowing in the back of my heart – or heartless body," he reflected.
"So when time came to actually revisit Quaritch and bring him to life, I was ready to do it. He's a character that I find a great pleasure to inhabit."
