The Avalanche have locked up defenceman Cale Makar, who will join them for their playoff series against Calgary.

Makar will join the Avalanche immediately for their first round Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Calgary Flames. The Calgary native earned the 2019 Hobey Baker Award — the first University of Massachusetts player to do so — after leading the Minutemen to the NCAA Frozen Four Championship Game. Makar led Hockey East and ranked first nationally among all NCAA defencemen with 49 points in 41 games.
