As the autopsy of deceased soccer icon Senzo Meyiwa took centre stage at the Pretoria High Court, pathologist Johannes Steenkamp painted a picture of the wounds that led to his demise.
Steenkamp told the court during his testimony on Tuesday that heavy losses of blood and damage to the lungs and heart were the primary mechanisms he found upon conducting a post-mortem on Meyiwa after he was declared dead at the Botshelong Hospital in Vosloorus on October 26 2014.
He detailed that his observations were that an object was pressed against the skin with all elements, including the gas, the heat and the gunpowder, adding: He said the bullet bruised the right lung and interior tissues of his heart, which also caused excessive internal bleeding.
