Authorities capture violent felon 'erroneously' released from Harris County jail
Authorities rearrested a violent felon who was “erroneously” released from the Harris County Jail and spent several hours on the loose,Marcelo Perez Campos, 61, was taken into custody and sent back to the jail, Gonzalez announced just before 1 a.m. Thursday.The news came several hours after the sheriff’s office asked for the public’s help in finding Campos, a man who was sentenced to 25 years in prison last month. The man was supposed to go to a state prison to serve his sentence but, instead, was accidentally released, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials blamed an “apparent clerical error” for the decision, but did not share more information about how it happened. Sheriff’s office officials said they were conducting an internal investigation to see what policy or procedural violations might have happened.
