CANBERRA: Australian wine makers shipped wine worth A$86 million (US$57 million) to China in the month after Beijing lifted tariffs and should be confident of bumper sales going forward, the trade minister said on Wednesday (Jun 12).

"All the evidence so far is that there's pent up demand for Australian wine into the Chinese market," he said, standing in front of barrels at a winery in South Australia. The aim is to foster growth rather than compensate farmers for switching from grapes to other crops as some other countries have done, said Agriculture Minister Murray Watt.
