AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has been hunting down suspects in relation to the Feb. 18 “street takeover” for weeks. It’s a citywide search that investigators are not backing down from, and they want the public to assist them with pointing out the people and cars that were associated with the events of last month.
To further the investigations and address community safety concerns, APD has been working alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety. “The issue of reckless driving throughout the city put our Austin community members at risk,” APD wrote in a press release. APD assures residents that a plan was created to handle these criminal activities and derail any other incidents, such as the night of Feb 18.
APD stated, “The APD Organized Crime Division in conjunction with our local and state law enforcement partners continue to investigate these incidents. The criminal offenses being investigated include but are not limited to Aggravated Assault Against a Peace Officer, Deadly Conduct, Evading in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving Exhibition, Obstructing a Highway or Other Passageway and Use of Laser Pointers.
There are still some suspects recorded at the scene that have not been identified. When more details into the whereabouts of those individuals emerge, then arrest warrants can be sought. Police have plucked out some information to share publicly, in case any of the suspects or vehicles are identifiable to anyone.
