Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bathusi Aubaas is adamant about securing a victory against AS FAR in their final CAF Champions League group stage match. Despite the fact that a draw would be sufficient for Sundowns to advance to the quarterfinals alongside AS FAR , who have already secured their spot, Aubaas insists on going for all three points in front of their home crowd at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday night.
Aubaas acknowledges that Sundowns could have won the reverse fixture against AS FAR in Morocco last December, but a lapse in concentration in the final minute allowed AS FAR to equalize. 'We could have won the last game against FAR but in the last minute, we didn’t concentrate properly,' Aubaas said on Radio 2000. 'The coach told us that they play with crosses, so we lost concentration in the last minute and they scored. We will beat them at home in front of our supporters and I am 100 percent sure of it.' Aubaas emphasized Sundowns' ambition to win the CAF Champions League this season, highlighting their desire to end a nine-year drought for a second continental title. They came close last year but ultimately fell short in the semi-finals against Esperance of Tunisia. 'Yes, on a serious note, we need to win the Champions League this season because we missed out last season after losing to Esperance of Tunisia. We’re looking to win it this season,' Aubaas stated. 'I think we could have won it last season, but when we played Esperance in Tunisia, we could have won it there. There was a chance with Lucas Ribeiro.
