Domingo Acevedo has been a steady, reliable presence in the A’s bullpen this season.
OAKLAND — Players have lauded manager Mark Kotsay for leaving nothing to chance when it comes to communication.
Acevedo, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound right-hander, had pitched well enough that he was a lock for the final roster. So much so that Kotsay assumed Acevedo knew he would be with the A’s when the season started. Acevedo has turned into one of the American League’s most reliable relievers. His 54 appearances are tied for second and he’s ninth among relievers in innings pitched with 54 1/3 innings. He threw a scoreless inning in Saturday’s 4-3 win over the Mariners for his 17th hold of the season.
Acevedo joined the A’s last season after originally being with the Yankees organization. He made his big league debut with Oakland last season, pitching 11 innings in 10 appearances.
