“Zero” visibility is believed to be responsible for several fatal collisions on a Florida interstate this morning. The latest:

It's unclear exactly what caused the crashes, but foggy and smoky conditions reduced visibility at the time.At least three people are dead and numerous others injured after a series of fiery crashes in poor visibility along a stretch of Interstate 95 in east-Central Florida.in the localized area near Edgewater, Florida, when fog mixed with smoke from a nearby burn. Edgewater is about 20 miles south of Daytona Beach.
“Miraculoulsy, when you look at some of these cars in the northbound lanes there are people that survived that don’t know how that happened," FHP Lt. Kim Montes said in a morning news conference.A total of five crashes involving 17 vehicles killed at least 3 people and injured "numerous" others, including a child that was flown to an Orlando hospital and is in stable condition, the FHP said. The accidents happened on both the southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 95.
A multi-mile stretch of the interstate from State Road 44 in Volusia County north to State Road 5 in Brevard County is expected to remain closed throughout the day and potentially into the evening hours, the FHP said. Drivers were being told to detour to U.S. 1 or avoid the area altogether.
