Death toll from earthquake in eastern Turkey rises to 21 with 1,030 people injured, says Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency
Search and rescue work continues after the earthquake in Elazig, Saturday January 25, Elazıg, Turkey.
Seventeen people were killed in Elazig and four more in the neighbouring province of Malatya, said Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Authority , adding 1,030 others were injured and in hospitals in the region. The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency , Turkish Red Crescent, National Medical Rescue Team , Search and Rescue Association and emergency services dispatched rescue teams, beds, blankets and mobile kitchens to the region immediately after the quake .
The Turkish Red Crescent sent catering, communication vehicles and three large trucks serving as mobile kitchens were dispatched. Ambulances and planes were ready to help, said Health Minister Koca.
