Fire officials said five of those patients were taken to a hospital

San Diego fire officials on Thursday confirmed that at least 14 people required medical attention for heat-related issues — including five who were taken to hospitals — during Saturday’s sweltering game at Snapdragon Stadium.

David Wicker, the college’s director of athletics, said there were around 200 medical requests during the game, with most related to the heat. Between 10 to 20 people were taken to hospitals, he said. The temperature at Saturday’s kick-off hit a sizzling 100 degrees, making it the hottest home game since 2004, according to a review of available data by the Union-Tribune. The city of San Diego also broke records, with Saturday becoming the hottest Sept.

University officials pushed back against those statements, saying the fire department did not provide any feedback after receiving the university’s plan. SDSU spokesperson La Monica Everett-Haynes said the college worked with the city’s fire agency to develop its medical plan prior to the stadium’s first scrimmage and made adjustments after receiving feedback from fire officials.
