The bus was carrying Hindu pilgrims to a shrine in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Tuesday when it fell from the bridge into a Himalayan gorge.The bus was travelling from Amritsar in the northern state of Punjab towards Katra when it fell into the gorge near Jammu.They were visiting the shrine of Vaishno Devi, which is highly revered by Hindus and sees hundreds of thousands of people visit every year.
Police officer Chandan Kohli said the dead were from India’s Bihar state, but individuals have not yet been named publicly. India has some of the highest road death rates in the world, with thousands of people killed and injured annually.Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at
