With a three-run lead, Astros manager Dusty Baker hoped to get one more inning from him.

Blanco surpassed 40 pitches in an outing once the past three seasons. He threw 79 and 86 pitches in his last two games at Triple-A in May before rejoining the Astros to help an injury-thinned rotation. He has thrown 94 pitches in each of his three starts for Houston, including his outing Sunday that turned in the sixth inning ofSeeing the lineup for a third time, Blanco faced five batters in the sixth and allowed four hits as the Reds erased a 5-2 deficit.

Blanco had last pitched June 7, holding the Blue Jays to two runs in six innings. He slotted back into the rotation Sunday to give the rest of Houston’s starters an extra day of rest. Two miscues arose in the sixth inning, one forced. Reds rookie Elly De La Cruz turned a sharp groundball to first base into an infield hit, outsprinting José Abreu to the base. De La Cruz has excellent speed, though Blanco acknowledged he could have broken faster to try to cover.
