Danny Ings scored hours after being linked with a move to Everton.
Date published: Wednesday 4th January 2023 10:12 -Wolves were unable to make it two away wins from two under Julen Lopetegui after Aston Villa striker Danny Ings grabbed a late goal to secure a 1-1 draw at Villa Park.
They were well worth their lead but Julen Lopetegui needs wins to haul his side, who have been in the bottom three since October, to safety. A cross was only cleared to Podence on the touchline and he swapped passes with Joao Moutinho to wriggle into the area. He still had plenty to do but the forward danced past the static Douglas Luiz and expertly curled into the corner.
It was a lucky escape for Villa and any first-half recovery seemed unrealistic, even if Jose Sa needed to turn Lucas Digne’s free kick over, with Emery’s men floundering. Any way back would need to come from a Wolves mistake. Lopetegui’s side, especially Sa, had been prone to the occasional sliced clearance but they navigated their way to the break with minimum fuss.
