Alberta\u0027s police watchdog is investigating RCMP use of force after a 27\u002Dyear\u002Dold Maskwacis man died following an officer\u002Dinvolved shooting.

The man had the rifle pointing upward before directing it at another officer who later arrived on the scene and approached the man on foot, ASIRT said, adding that the officer shot the man with his own firearm and no officers were injured. Officers provided first aid to the victim until emergency medical services arrived and transported him to hospital in Edmonton, where the man died on Saturday, ASIRT said.
ASIRT, an independent agency that investigates Alberta police incidents involving misconduct, serious injury and death, said it is not releasing any more information related to this case, but continues to search for witnesses to the shooting and asks anyone with relevant information or video to call investigators at 780-644-1483.
