’s sophomore album is anything like the two new songs she’s released, it will be chock-full of haunting characters and clever storylines. Her latest track, “Martha Divine,” picks up where the video for “One Night Standards” left off. In it, a daughter finds out her father is having an affair and seeks revenge on his mistress.
The video for “Martha Divine” shows the man’s daughter learning of his affair and deciding to put an end to it, albeit dangerously. She heads to the hotel room with a shovel, rope and duct tape to solve the problem. All the while, McBryde’s vivid storytelling brings the situation to life as she croons, “It ain’t murder if I bury you alive.”
McBryde co-wrote the dark, rollicking number with Jeremy Spillman. The song will be featured on her sophomore album, produced by Jay Joyce, and expected for release later this year. Directed by Reid Long, the video for “Martha Divine” follows the storyline of “One Night Standards.” It is the second clip in a three-part video series.
