Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs splashed the cash to sign Ashley Du Preez from Stellenbosch FC last month on the back of a season in which the pacey forward starred for the Cape Winelands-based outfit.
Du Preez scored nine goals and recorded three assists in the DStv Premiership last season as Stellies fell agonosingly short of securing continental qualification for the 2022/23 campaign.Testament to the 24-year-old's form over the last 12 months is the remarkable jump he has enjoyed in terms of his market valuewhich has more than double since the start of last season.
A year ago, he was reported to carry a market value of around R3.8 million which has more than doubled since his move to Chiefs, with it now having surpassed the R8 million mark. With a Bafana Bafana call-up expected to materialise in the near future, that figure could rise even further to the point where Du Preez can count himself among Chiefs' most valuable player.
He still has some way to get there though, with the like of Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat way out in front after establishing themselves as stars within the club and league.
