Prosecutor Paul Greaney KC said a 'mundane purchase' James Witham made just a day earlier led police straight to him, with 'no choice' but to plead guilty.
A "mundane purchase" of a pair of trainers led police to the man who shot a woman in her home. James Witham was linked directly to Ashley Dale's death in Leinster Road, Old Swan, in the early hours of August 21 last year after his footprint was found on her front door.
A distinctive trainer mark was found on the front door of Ashley's home when police were searching for evidence. As well as this, Witham's DNA was also found on a bullet casing. “James Witham and Ian Fitzgibbon had travelled to Taskers Sports in a black Volkswagen Golf. Ian Fitzgibbon stayed in the car and James Witham went inside. Whilst in the store, James Witham made a purchase.
"That is because James Witham was wearing these very trainers as he kicked in the front door to 40 Leinster Road, and as he walked out, leaving Ashley dying in the back yard.
