"And indeed, the foundation has formed a partnership with the Joy of Jazz, and you might think that is because some of us love jazz, which we do, but the principal reason is that … there is something that has not gone right and one of the things that have not gone right is that we have lost sight of the role of the arts in terms of the formation of the nation," said Mbeki.
The library, which will be situated in Killarney, will have eight domes, and according to Jamela, one of the domes will be dedicated to arts and culture. "The idea is that in the future, we are going to host several workshops and other activities in our collaboration just to raise awareness of the importance of arts and culture in building our heritage," said Jamela.Mbeki told those gathered to celebrate his birthday that the Thabo Mbeki Foundation hoped to start building the library this year.
"Obviously, this is the father of the nation in Zambia, but the Kaunda family and the Zambian government say the best home for the archive of president Kaunda is this African library.He said the library would consist of the history of African people.
