Marc Guggenheim says that 'in a perfect world' he would like to edit the five-part Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths into a single movie and re-release it
Arrowverse creator Marc Guggenheim wants to see the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover get re-released as a full movie. Since 2012, the Arrowverse has been one of The CW's biggest flagship franchises, starting with Arrow and allowing several spinoff shows to be born in the following years. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Greg Berlanti-produced universe would host annual crossovers, with the last being Crisis on Infinite Earths, which aired from December 2019 to January 2020.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY It has been almost three years since The CW aired Crisis on Infinite Earths, which became Oliver Queen's last Arrowverse crossover before the character passed away during Arrow's final season. One of its creators, Guggenheim, who was the driving creative force for Crisis on Infinite Earths, shared on Twitter one of his hopes for the unforgettable crossover.
While no announcements have been made, it's unclear if Superman & Lois season 3 will be the show's last on the network. With Nexstar as The CW's new majority owner, the new president has stated he isn't sure if the DC TV franchise will be part of their programming in the 2023-2024 TV season. Even though The CW hasn't revealed its premiere date yet, Superman & Lois will be back for season 3 sometime in 2023, likely on its Tuesday night timeslot.
With the new direction of DC Studios, which will include a shared focus on TV shows based in the DCU, the Arrowverse is essentially, sadly, on its last legs. It doesn't help that Nexstar/The CW's new programming strategy is going to be less about the genres they have focused on for years. It's always possible the Arrowverse could live on through HBO Max with a new slate of shows if that is something Warner Bros. TV and Warner Bros.
