Newark, N.J.A man was arrested after he was accused of killing one person and injuring two others in a triple shooting Monday in Newark, authorities announced Thursday.
Deandre Smith, 36, of Newark, was charged with murder and weapons-related offenses, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Department.near South Orange Avenue, and the trio was rushed to University Hospital, police said. One of them, 30-year-old Newark resident Frankie Fields, was pronounced dead at 1:54 p.m., officials said.
They other two people shot were hospitalized in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon, the office said. Their condition was not immediately clear Thursday evening. Smith was identified as a suspect and was arrested and charged, but no other information was released by the agencies as the investigation into the murder of Fields remained active and ongoing. Attorney information for Smith was not immediately available.
