And it’s tough to top the excitement of that first round on home turf, whether that’s at your frequent hangout or at a place that wouldn’t normally be on your hit-list.

For the keenest of Calgary-and-area golfers, opening day came in mid-April. My usual commute takes me down Bow Trail and I’d chuckle as I glanced over at the first hole at Shaganappi Point. The ice around that almost-island green hadn’t quite melted yet, so a bunch of TaylorMades and Top-Flites were waiting on their final plunge. Even with my dashboard showing single-digit temperatures outside, I was wishing I was out there.
