Security officers with Texas Public Safety and Investigations began their first shift at all Elgin ISD campuses on Tuesday in response toThe Elgin ISD Board of Trustees approved a contract with TXPSI to provide security officers on September 18 to comply with the requirements of state House Bill 3, which focused on school safety.
The legislation, approved earlier this year, requires at least one armed security officer to be present during school hours at each Texas district campus. Elgin ISD said in a press release that each officer holds non-commissioned and commissioned security licenses with the Texas Department of Public Safety and are certified in CPR, first aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator. Some have also previously worked as emergency medical technicians and firefighters. All are licensed school crossing guards, too.
