Arizona Cardinals start Day 2 of NFL Draft with trade, edge rusher
Of course, though, Friday had to begin with another trade by General Manager Monti Ossenfort. Perhaps not surprisingly, that’s how the second day ended for the Cardinals as well. After selecting Wilson with the 94overall pick, Arizona dealt pick No. 96 to the Lions to move back into the fourth and fifth rounds where they didn’t have a selection.
The 6-foot-2, 248-pound Ojulari can do that, as his 126 career pressures attest. That’s the second-most in the FBS since 2020 behind only Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr., who went No .3 overall. Ojulari had 16½ sacks and 35½ tackles for loss in 31 games for the Tigers. He will line up at either defensive end or outside linebacker in coach Jonathan Gannon’s defense and his addition helps fill part of the void of losing J.J. Watt to retirement and Zach Allen to free agency.
Ojulari said he hopes to come in “and be able to contribute immediately,” but stressed the first order of business is doing anything he can to help the Cardinals win games and ultimately, compete for a Super Bowl title. That last part might have to wait until Ossenfort has more time to continue to shape and restock the roster and there’s no telling how long that will take.
Williams had 152 career tackles to go along with 21 passes defensed and four interceptions. He also knew the Cardinals were the best fit for him after interviewing with them at the scouting combine and during a Zoom call.
