Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has hit back at Kylian Mbappe for his previous remarks about South American football. SLInt MORE:
The South American champions go head-to-head with the defending world champions in the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday evening.Mbappe stated earlier this year that South American football is not as advanced as the European game.
"When we arrive at the World Cup, we are ready, where Brazil and Argentina do not have this level in South America," Mbappe said. "Football is not as advanced as in Europe. That’s why at the last World Cups, it's always the Europeans who win." Mbappe did face some backlash at the time from his South American counterparts, including former Brazil coach Tite."He said that the level of South America is lower than the European level because he did not play there," Martinez said, as per the Mirror.
"If you do not have the experience then it is difficult to comment, but nothing was wrong with what he said. They know we are a world class team and they respect us for that."
