These days, it’s easier to attain a certain kind of celebrity status, as long as you have a camera and an internet connection. This felt like it was the case when i watched Thato Rampedi’s new reality YouTube show Are YouTubed In, which was shot in Cape Town.
The first episode introduces us to the cast, which features some of South Africa's most popular YouTube talents, including lifestyle influencer Naledi Mallela, Siyamthanda Ndamase, vlogger Gontse Mohlatlole and self-care princess Clarissa Magunde.There’s nothing better than curling up in a blanket and watching the often outlandish drama that unfolds between reality TV cast members. The fights, the quote-worthy moments and the culture-defining trends that reality shows set are undeniable.
With more altercations being left out of the final edits, it’s sad to say we found out more about the fights and relationships from cast members on Twitter and Instagram. Rampedi has also said that the show was unscripted and, unfortunately, you could tell. With almost no moments for viewers to latch onto, it became difficult to build attachments to most characters in the show.
