An Arby’s night shift manager was charged Monday with skimming nearly $8,000 in cash off nightly bank deposits, court records show.
Kathryn M. Dershem, 35, of Portage, is charged with theft and two counts each of fraud and forgery. An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday. She is ordered held without bond.Authorities believe she stole the money between July 26 and Sept. 9. Company officials found 24 deposits that were short $100-200 each, or never deposited, an affidavit alleges.
When confronted, Dershem blamed another employee who had already been fired, the director of operations said. The total missing was $7,894.81. Investigators believed Dershem typed other employee’s names on company receipt logs as “validators.” One woman was not working sometimes when her name was used and it had been misspelled, according to the affidavit.
