At Stanley Bridge Wharf on Prince Edward Island Fiona left seafood shops, like Stanley's Fresh Seafood operated by Raspberry Point Farm, with water and structural damage. “Some of them were tossed a thousand feet from the shore. I think once the waves threw them up, the wind caught them and they went for another ride,” he said, adding some cages tore apart as they tumbled along the beach. At New London the powerful sea surge of Fiona flooded property owned by Raspberry Point Oysters leaving oyster trays strewn along the shore. - Contributed

“We’re still getting estimates on how bad some of that stuff is, but all of our buildings on shore took some kind of hit,” said Power, especially the restaurant at the Stanley Bridge wharf. This year the company was on track to produce about 25 million oysters, said Power, noting there has been a growing demand for oysters.

“Some of them have hardships at home, you know, with no power, or property damage, and … we wanted to make sure people had some time to deal with that and were prepared to come back to work.” “That storm surge was so powerful, it’s still a big question mark, I guess on whether cages would survive that kind of surging tides.”
