Smich and Millard are both appealing their first\u002Ddegree murder convictions — both were convicted of killing Laura Babcock and Tim Bosma

Millard was rich, older, involved in business, while Smich relied on Millard for much of his income and often lived in Millard’s house.

At trial, prosecutors presented evidence that the cell phones of Millard, Smich, and Babcock were retroactively tracked by police on July 3, 2012, on the night Babcock disappeared. Millard’s and Babcock’s phones moved in tandem, away from Millard’s home in the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke, while Smich’s remained around the home.
