The president's attack on Democratic lawmakers is panned by the Jewish civil rights group.
The Anti-Defamation League denounced President Trump’s “racist” tweets telling four Democratic congresswomen to “go back” to the “crime infested places from which they came.”
.@POTUS' racist tweets read as if ripped straight from a white supremacist manifesto. Using Israel to defend racism only hurts the Jewish community. I wrote for @NBCNews on this: https://t.co/706VdlhgIhGreenblatt wrote that Trump’s insistence Monday that the four congresswomen — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts — hate America and Israel was troubling.
The ADL, a civil rights organization founded to “stop the defamation of the Jewish people,” also noted on its website that Trump’s attacks on the Democratic lawmakers “was greeted with enthusiasm by white supremacists and other extremists.”“Man, President Trump’s Twitter account has been pure fire lately. This might be the funniest thing he’s ever tweeted,” Anglin wrote. “This is the kind of WHITE NATIONALISM we elected him for.
Any responsible Jewish leader will vigorously denounce Trump’s attempt to link his own vile racism with some sort of defense of Israel. Not only is it disgusting on the merits, it is the most surefire way to cause support for Israel to plummet in the U.S. as quickly as possible.Story continuesOver the past two days, Trump has launched a campaign against the four congresswomen in what some have read to be a calculated effort to further divide the Democratic Party.
