The newly formed and Jacob Zuma-led MK Party has won yet another case against the African National Congress (ANC).
The KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban has dismissed the African National Congress’ trademark case against the Jacob Zuma-led uMkhonto weSizwe Party. Acting Judge Nicolette Beket dismissed the case with costs for the ruling party.
that the ANC’s legal fight over the name and logo of MK was “not a battle for a court but instead a battle for a political mind”.that the court victory demonstrated that the ruling party had been trying by all means to derail the party as it aims for the two-third majority in the upcoming elections. Earlier this month, the Jacob Zuma-backed party also won its case against the ANC which wanted its registration to be declared unlawful. Electoral Court judge Lebogang Modiba said the deregistration of the MK Party now would not give the party enough time to register again.
“The ANC should have objected to MK Party’s registration within the first 14 days of the publication of the notice of MK registration,” Modiba added.
