Another floundering turnout for CNN with JakeTapper’s primetime show debut
Tapper drew dismal ratings during his CNN Tonight show Tuesday as he failed to attract a million viewers and landed in a distant third place behind Fox News and MSNBC, according to cable news ratings.
Fox News’s Hannity won first place with 2.63 million total viewers and MSNBC’s Alex Wagner Tonight took second place with 1.59 million total viewers, good enough to triple and double CNN’s turnout of only 854,000 total viewers. However, he fell far behind Sean Hannity, who garnered 323,000 viewers in the key demographic.
Prior to Tapper taking over the 9 p.m. show for CNN, the primetime spot has seen a rotation of hosts since Chris Cuomo was fired in December. Despite trailing Fox News and MSNBC in the total viewers, Tapper’s Tuesday debut bettered the network’s 9 p.m. ratings of late. On Monday, Anderson Cooper 360 aired at 9 p.m., drawing 504,000 total viewers.CNN has said Tapper’s new primetime show will run through at least Nov. 11, the week of the midterm elections.
