Rwanda becomes the next African state to allow visa-free entry to all passport holders from the African continent.
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has announced that Rwanda will open up visa-free access for all African nations.
The announcement was made during the 23rd Global Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council held in Kigali, Rwanda.The move makes Rwanda the fourth African nation to adopt an open borders approach. Once implemented, Rwanda will join Gambia, Benin, and Seychelles as one of the few African countries removing travel restrictions for Africans.Furthermore, Kagame emphasized the potential of Africa as “a unified tourism destination”.
In 2016, the African Union introduced the African Passport and free movement of people initiative. The aim was to facilitate Africans’ ability to travel, work, and live within their own continent. However, little progress has been made with regard to this initiative.
